What is a Cal Poly Advocate?

Someone willing to periodically contact elected and government officials on selected issues affecting Cal Poly and/or the CSU system.

Cal Poly Advocates can assist the university by:

  • Personally contacting legislators and government officials

  • Writing them

  • Helping Cal Poly leaders develop the best strategy for influencing issues

What should Cal Poly Advocates expect from their involvement?

  • Specific information on government issues that might affect Cal Poly and specific "requests for action"

  • Instructions on how to be an effective advocate

  • Quarterly updates from the Cal Poly Office of Government & Community Relations


  • Satisfaction that they are giving back to Cal Poly in order to ensure the continuous improvement of higher education
