Alumna is Cal Poly's First Gold Medalist

It's been 76 years since a U.S. woman has won a gold medal in the discus throw. And now Cal Poly's own Stephanie Brown Trafton won the Olympic discus title with a best mark of 212 feet, 5 inches at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.

Sweet 16: Cal Poly is Best in the West

For the 16th year in a row, Cal Poly has been rated the best public-master's university in the West by U.S. News & World Report, in its 2009 America 's Best Colleges guidebook. Cal Poly ranked 10th in the magazine's overall list of the West's best universities, including both public and private institutions.

Crop Science Alumna is Olympic Silver Medalist in Equestrian Competition
Crop Science alumna Gina Miles of Creston won the silver medal in the equestrian eventing final at the Olympics Aug. 12 in Hong Kong, where the Olympic equestrian events were held. Miles, riding her prized horse McKinlaigh, had a clear round that brought her up from fourth to second and Olympic silver.
